Co-founders Claire and James Fuller, both working as self-employed contractors, experienced first-hand the gnarly time-suck and pain that is tax and financial admin. That frustration motivated them to build a solution for sorting sole traders taxes.

Officially launching in New Zealand in 2017, Hnry was designed to make it easy, affordable, and accessible for anyone to earn independently. Safe to say it was a hit!
After running in New Zealand for a number of years, we expanded our operations to Australia. We set up shop in the heart of Sydney’s tech district, with managing director Karan at the front of building Hnry’s presence in Australia.

We reached $2 billion in annualised payments and, officially, processed 1% of New Zealand’s tax revenue. If sole traders were a company, that’s one large payroll.
Serving tens of thousands of sole traders across Australia and New Zealand, we continued to improve our service and be one of the sole voices advocating for the self-employed.
This was possibly the worst-kept secret in the fintech world, but in February 2025 we officially landed in London with the goal to bring the same Hnry magic to UK sole traders and freelancers. Our small, but mighty UK team is growing every day with Manasé, our Head of UK, leading the charge.
