Hnry expands into the UK: Aims to ease tax anxiety for 4 million sole traders
New Zealand, 23 July 2023 - 4 million UK sole traders are in Hnry’s sights as it enters the UK, launching a waitlist for its world-first tax automation service, which it expects to be up and running by mid-2024.
Hnry’s UK expansion comes almost four years after the groundbreaking service launched in Australia. Its successful $35 million Series B raise in January 2023 has supercharged Hnry’s growth over the last 12 months, experiencing a 60 per cent increase in revenue in the last 12 months across Australasia.
Hnry’s UK team will be led by Manasé Mtopa, Head of UK. A Chartered Management Accountant specialising in digital transformation and operational efficiency he’s previously held senior roles at Experian, Direct Line and Lloyd’s Banking Group.
He says there’s no identical platform to Hnry operating in the UK, and its uniqueness comes from holistically managing all sole traders’ needs in one place.
“Our UK market advantage lies in our obsessive dedication to customer satisfaction and a streamlined and user-friendly platform that simplifies tax compliance for sole traders. We have an account for sole traders to be paid into, so we can calculate and pay their taxes as they go - we’ll also provide our customers with expense management and exceptional customer care.
“As a former contractor, I’d have loved using Hnry to manage my tax; the tax automation along with the on-hand support from tax experts would have saved me a lot of time and money,” he says.
Hnry UK will complement the NZ and Australian operations, and a London-based team will support local customers and growth
James Fuller, Hnry CEO, says New Zealand’s connections to the UK are strong, particularly given more than 45,000 Kiwi citizens live and work there, and he’s calling on Hnry’s NZ customers to let their self-employed friends and family know the service is coming.
“So many people have been asking for years when Hnry will be available in the UK - Let your self-employed friends and family know we’re coming, and if you’re a self-employed Kiwi working in the UK, now’s the time to join our waitlist and be amongst our first customers as we begin our mission to revolutionise tax for sole traders in the UK.
“We’re excited about the opportunities the UK offers but, more importantly, about the impact Hnry can have on improving the lives of the more than four million sole traders there,” he says.
Manasé Mtopa joins Karan Anand (Managing Director for Hnry Australia) and Claire and James Fuller in Hnry’s senior management team.
At the end of 2023, Hnry released its Hnry Visa Debit Card in Australia - the world’s first dedicated debit card for sole traders. The card will be fully available soon in New Zealand, and Hnry plans to release it to UK customers by the end of 2024.
